Vivarra Dental is a mobile App which is revolutionizing the patient experience using Augmented Reality. Vivarra Dental is built for kids who wait for a dentists’ appointments in dental clinics. The goal of building this product is to make kids’ waiting time less stressful by engaging kids in entertaining and educational content.
What is Vivarra Dental?
Vivarra Dental is a mobile app available on any Android or Apple (iOS) smartphone, it uses augmented reality. The parent company of Vivarra is in the business of Wall Murals and creating themed environment for dentists.
The Augmented Reality Apps offered, bring different characters to life using the existing wall murals in Dentists’ offices, providing an engaging and interactive experience that weaves together fun and games with patient education.
The Idea?
While kids wait for dentists at a dental care, they are scared, anxious and stressed. The interactive and engaging nature of this app makes the premises of Pediatric dentists more welcoming. Since interior theme of the Dentists’ office are varied, we needed ability to customise the look and feel of the app based on the Dentist’s office.
The Idea here is to replace Fear with Fun!
Challenges
- To build an Augmented Reality app which functions on devices without any special hardware.
- The AR app should be customisable so much so that it matches the theme of individual dentists’ office.
- AR experiences at each dentist should be unique and customisable to match the office theme, characters in the AR experiences needed to be relevant to the theme.
- Vivarra Dental App needs to have multiple users in the same app installation. Each user should have ability to save and track their own progress.
- App needs to have in-app games and video content as well apart from AR content.
- Keep low footprint of the app, at the same time have an app which can accommodate any number of videos, games and AR experiences.
Given the challenges the product brought with itself. We chose our technology and platforms.
Technology used
Solutions
- We came up with a one of its kind solution, which involved lots of exploration, experiments, rounds of trial and errors to zero-in on our solution.
- To make it customisable so that the app is themed to match office interiors of the Dentists’ office and their branding, we built a cloud based CMS, using which app skins for each individual clinic can be customised.
- In order to have custom and unique experience, we created an AR cloud, which is where experiences were uploaded, these 3D models and characters are rendered on the app in runtime.
- Games were pre-loaded in the app, CMS has the ability to enable-disable these games for each dental clinic.
- Videos are streamed on-demand from cloud.
- Since most of the heavy lifting is being done by our AR cloud and cloud-based CMS, app has a low footprint and does not eat away memory of users’ devices.
Outcome
We brought the idea to life, we created an App which we are proud of, the app has delighted the dentists’ and kids alike. Vivarra Dental App has been nominated for some of the most prestigious awards in startup world for its innovativeness. Given its uniqueness, it also helps dental clinics in their marketing and branding.
